Farm TypeBeef, Dairy
Description

Looking for experienced tele-handler operator with keenan feeder wagon experience and/or experienced calf-rearer on progressive 700 cow dairy farm in West Wales.  A fantastic opportunity is available to join our current team on a family-owned modern and progressive dairy farm in a beautiful area within Carmarthenshire.  We are looking for a skilled and competent tele-handler driver with experience in TMR feeding on a Keenan system. Reliability, punctuality and a keen eye for precision is essential for this role. This role requires early morning starts but is on a rota system to ensure adequate time off. Must be able to speak and understand English. A shift is 10 hours a day on average.  We are also recruiting an experienced calf-rearer who will be reponsible for health and welfare of calves. We operate on a year round calving system and you will be working as part of a team including the youngstock manager and farm manager, but you will have responsibility for the calf-unit and will be working independantly for much of the day. We pride ourselves on having high standards of care and welfare and we would expect the calf-rearer to closely follow our farm protocols. You will identify and record new-born calves and adhere to protocols on colostrum management & administration for newborn calf management. The successfull candidate must have attention to detail, patience and an enthusiasm for animal husbandry. You will observe and be able to identify sick animals and treat calves requiring medication as well as administer vaccines. The calf-rearer will be reposible for teat-training, tagging, recording and de-horning, along with bedding and environment management. High standards of hygiene are required. The calf-rearer will also be involved in calvings which take place at the same youngstock unit. We operate a Johnes action plan which requires separation of some cows so the rearer needs to be well organised. Calves are reared in individual pens then in batches in pens. The calf-rearer will be reponsible for all feeding of milk and concentrates through till weaning. Feeding is via a milk-taxi with delivery hose - no heavy buckets to carry. The successfull candidate must have a full driving licence as they will be responsible for transportation of calves in a purpose-built calf pick-up. For both roles, calf rearer and keenan feeder operator,  we are looking for experience. However, full training and support will be given for any weak areas.  This is an exciting opportunity for anyone who wishes to further their career within dairying.
