SKILLS & EXPERIENCE I secured a place on a level 3 course at Reaseheath through working at Chatsworth between high school and the next academic year. Once on the course I got a part-time placement on an organic farm unknown to me or the college, and then through recommendation gained a 2nd part-time placement. Both farms have since taken more students from Reaseheath and I finished the course with a distinction. Chatsworth is an Estate Farm of 14,000 hectares / 35,000 acres with 4,000 sheep [Jacob, Masham, Swaledale & Mule] and has 1 million visitors a year. After college I continued to work between Lawn Farm and White House Farm gaining experience in artificial insemination using heat time and Crystal and InterHerd software having persuaded them to install an in-parlour feeding system. Lawn is an organic farm and part of a family owned group extending over 2,500 acres and includes a contracting business. It has 700 head, milking 230 in a 24 aside ADF milking parlour giving a yield of 5,000L per day (21.7L per head). White House Farm is also organic with 450 acres and 350 head, milking 130 in a 16 aside herringbone automatic ID in feeders milking parlour producing a yield of 3,800L per day (29.2L per head). At the end of the MX season I set out to NZ to learn their system and within 3 days of arriving started as a Herd Manager for a farm milking 600 cows through a 36 aside herringbone Fonterra system. Here I learnt foot trimming, K-line irrigation, pasture management and seasonal crop grazing such as fodder beat. For the new NZ season I moved to Trident Holdings on the North Island as a 2IC with 3 staff managing 750 cows and have gained extensive knowledge in feed budgeting and allocating breaks.
