Other Information

I believe I would be suitable for this position as I have a positive and conscientious approach to my work together with the ability to use my own initiative. I am hardworking and able to achieve high standards. I am also keen to advance my skills and knowledge of the new technologies which are now available in farming. I currently work on an arable farm of 2,500 acres which consists of 1,400 acres of combinable crops and a 1,000 acres of MOD grassland some of which is maintained for the environment and the remainder grown for hay. I would like the opportunity to work on a mixed stock/arable farm again as although I appreciate the opportunity given to my by my current employer, I have realised that I miss the variety of work offered by a mixed stock/arable farm.

Farming background

I have worked in farming since leaving school in 1989 where I worked on a dairy/sheep farm as a General Farm Worker/Tractor Driver. I remained in this position until 1998 when I began working on a dairy/arable farm where I was responsible for the cultivation and harvesting of all the arable crops throughout the year together with producing and harvesting forage crops for the dairy herd (silage and whole crop). I was also responsible for feeding of the milking cows (Jerseys) with a Keenan feeder, feeding and cleaning out of the young stock and bulls and assisting with TB testing and other associated stock handling. Other duties included cleaning out of the deep litter yards with a telescopic JCB Loadall and spreading of yard muck and slurry (this included tanker and umbilical systems). I also used a JCB JS130, JCBJS145 and a JCB mini 360 excavator for ditching, drainage work and emptying of the muck lagoon. I do not have a qualification for this however I have over ten years experience using them. I also undertook basic servicing and general maintenance of the farm machinery. I remained in this position until May 2017 when I moved to an arable farm of 2,400 acres of which 1,400 acres is used for combinable crops and the remaining 1,000 acres is MOD grassland some of which is environmental maintained whilst the rest is made for hay. I have recently gained experience of commercial grain store operations, using a computer controlled 24m trailed Airtech sprayer, 6 furrow semi-mounted reversible plough with press and hedge trimming. I have however found that I miss working on a mixed farm due to the variety that this type of farm provides.

Hobbies

Read various tractor/farming related publications to keep myself informed, watching YouTube videos of farming as I enjoy seeing how other farms are run and the different ways that day to day farming jobs are carried out. Helping my partner in the garden and watching tractor pulling when I can.
