I have recently completed my first year at Hartpury College studying a BTEC Extended Diploma in Agriculture, with triple Distinction* throughout all modules.

I passed a certified LANTRA course in Tractor driving. Performing the examination I used PTOs, mounted implements, trailed implements and a basic loader. I have driven a variety of tractors of different makes and models. The practical field experience I have is in ploughing, power harrowing, drilling, muck spreading and cleaning out sheds with a bucket loader. I can do many different types of fencing, such as, electric, post and rail, post and wire and also hedge laying and dry stone waling.

I have previously worked on a dairy farm over the summer of 2015 which involved milking, moving livestock, calving and observing artificial insemination. Since attending Hartpury college I have learned different aspects of livestock care for animals on different systems. I completed a season of lambing this year of 900 ewes. I also drenched, tagged, weighed and carried out ram MOTs before tupping. I handled, tagged and vaccinated and carried out health checks on deer. I carried out weighing, TB testing and clipped the back of cattle. I advised on changing the rations for different seasons and altering nutritional feed types.

I have continually gone the extra mile when completing all practical and theoretical tasks and offered my time freely on many occasions to cover student/staff absences on the farm and taking groups on tours during college open days. I am recommended as Student Ambassador during my final year at college where I will return to study farming Business Management. I will be available for permanent employment June 2019.

Farming background

As mentioned previously, I have worked on a dairy farm over the summer and during my time at Hartpury college I have gained experience in many aspects of farming. During my teens I took my pony to shows and attended the annual, Great Yorkshire Shows so have an understanding of the high level turnout required when showing cattle and sheep. As an extremely practical person I learn new skills quickly and work hard to get results.
