Basic experience in beef and sheep, having spent two weeks on a farm in back South Africa. l a basic understanding of the concepts and activities that take place on the farm from record keeping and was present when the sheep were having ultra sounds taken to determine the number of lambs the ewes were carrying. With regards to the cattle I have done a bit of medicating through injection. I have an understanding of how to recognize when an animal sheep or cattle is in poor health, as well as some of the symptoms of various pests and viruses. I feel I was able to learn as much as was possible during my two week period at the farm and look forward to learning more as I move forward into the future.

Farming background

2 years Harvest experience working for arable contractor in the United States. Position Held: Agricultural worker and Combine Harvester Operator. Duties: Daily operation and maintenance of combine harvester, general assistance in workshop servicing a number of harvesters, vehicles and implements. Worked as part of a small 8-10 person crew, which was part of a larger 50 person company crew. Harvested a variety of crops namely: Wheat, barley, corn (dry)(wet), soybeans, across a number of states, namely: Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Idaho, Washington and Missouri. Crew leader in Kansas and Missouri, leading a small team of 6 semi-trucks, 2 grain carts, and 2 combine harvesters. Communicated with team members, and liaised with farm owners and elevator personnel. I have experience in the safe operation and maintenance of the following vehicles and machinery, JD S670 combine harvester, JD 8345 tractor grain cart, Freightliner Cascadia semi-truck, JD 3415 Telehandler. I am familiar with the use of precision farming systems having used the John Deere green star system during my time in the USA. During my time in the USA we spent time in a number of different states operated in various different types of terrain and weather. The sizes of the different clients farms varied from anything from a few hundred acres to tens of thousands. Before arriving in the United Kingdom I worked the following jobs which will be further outlined in my CV attached.
