Farming background

Fully equipped to care for large number of sheep having worked on estate in Dorset farming 4000 ewes. Second Shepherd for a 4000-head flock. Duties included Animal Husbandry which involved  Administering antibiotics,  Daily checks of livestock,  Treatment of outwardly problems.  Responsibility of half the flock during lambing time,  Running the indoor lambing shed,  Delegating jobs to the student vets, instructing and teaching methods for birthing ewes,  Mothering lambs, fostering and bottle feeding. This job was mainly carried out alone. Working on the Estate was rewarding and satisfying due to the numbers of sheep and the ability to learn from the head shepherd then transfer those skills to younger people such as the Veterinary Students that helped during the months at lambing time.

Hobbies

I enjoy cycling, walking and motorcycling.
