Farming background

My first main agricultural job after leaving school was for an agricultural contractor in Somerset, Covering all aspects of farming which in those days were farmed out to contractors. This included silage harvest (Using the rake and then onto hauling trailers) as the boy on the firm i had carried out hours and hours of powerharrowing and trailer work to build up my skill base from the bottom. I was also chief tea and coffee maker and yard/workshop sweeper. During this time i was self employed and was used on a mixed beef and sheep farm feeding in the mornings and assisting the farmer with preparing the cattle for market. I then went onto his Brother in laws farm just three hundred yards down the road to learn the dairy industry for 18 months. I then pursued a different career within the public sector. This covered 13 years uniformed service away from home. I retired from that career and actively sought out a job within the farming sector in Kent. I was fortunate to be inducted into the role i am in at the moment. This is a very varied role, from recycling/Anaerobic Digestant plant to growing commercial quantities of pumpkins for sale in major supermarkets across the country. On this farm iam the sprayer operator and drive a self propelled Bateman sprayer cover all the combinable crops and pumpkins.
