Farming background

As you can see from my attached CV, I have recently completed a three-year bachelor’s degree in Agriculture at Writtle University College in Essex, attaining a 2:1, and I was also awarded the East Anglian Agricultural Supply Industry Award for all round reliability in keeping with the Universities foundation. I believe the knowledge and skills built up during this time make me the perfect candidate for the role. The position particularly interests me because I’m from a farming background and always worked part-time on the family mixed farm and have a lot of experience working with dairy cattle. I also have experience in lambing and calving, feeding, all aspects of the milking parlour and more recently at University, halter training for show preparation. Therefore, I haven’t been working on the farm for three years due to my studied at university. I am willing and able to learn anything new because my CV showed my experience is limited to basic skills, e.g. foot trimming, AI, transport of bails, towing trailers and use of loader, no harvesting or planting and etc. I am now excited to try different experiences and I am looking for work in any area of agriculture. I would interest in the dairy industry because it meets my career goals. Instead, I’m excited about joining your industry because I am always very interested in food and farming practices and felt it was the perfect opportunity to do so. During my course, I studied topics such as Livestock Science and Technology, Farm Enterprises and Diversification, Agro-technology, Contemporary issues in crop and livestock production and more topics. I realise I am more familiar with livestock but I am always happy to develop new skills. Having enjoyed the arable modules on my course, I feel the knowledge I have gained makes me suited to work in either the livestock or arable sector. I am a confident driver and have my own vehicle. I also have experience of tractor driving having recently gained a Lantra award. At the moment, I am doing a job I enjoy, being in the agricultural industry. I am keen to continue to broaden my knowledge and skills working within a team. I am grateful for the opportunities I have been given to work in the countryside in an industry that is subject to a mixed public opinion as well as volatile markets, mainly dictated by imports and the consumer. I one day hope that farmers are given the acknowledgement they deserve, while continuing to produce high quality products. I am profoundly deaf and don’t let my deafness inhibit my working life as you can see from my work experience.
