I have gained valuable experience in both dairy farming and pig farming and the associated roles within these jobs. As part of farm management for the dairy farming I have been actively involved in general farm labouring which includes a variety of tractor work such as – rolling, topping, mixing and spreading slurry, sowing fertilizer, mowing and drawing silage, buck rakeing, covering pits etc. My duties for the dairy herd management include TMR feeding with a tub feeder for feeding a dairy herd of 250, 120 dairy replacements and 230 beef cattle. This includes ensuring the correct amount being feed daily changed as necessary. My role also includes assisting with the daily milking, ensuring the cow cubicles are scraped clean with Davy Brown 1390, and also bedding the cubicles with the Bobman sawdust dispenser. At silage time we work as a team to ensure the silage is completed I have used a variety of machinery depending on the jobs to be completed. Once the first cut of silage has been completed my role then involves slurring fields, then ensuring that the fields are sowed with fertilizer.

I am a hardworking, honest, reliable person, who has gained valuable experience working in a variety of job roles. The type of my employment involves working long hours and hard work. On a daily basis I repair machinery and general maintenance when needed. Experience while working as owner of Robinson’s Ironcraft and while working with Alan Crockett Contractors has equipped me with customer knowledge of sales and customer services, which requires excellent communication skills. My interests lie in working with tractors and machinery. I am keen to learn new skills, and I am a quick learner which I feel is a positive attribute to possess. I am capable of working on my own, using my initiative when jobs need completed, but also as a team player to ensure the jobs are completed when required.

Being from a farming background and are currently still farming, I have experience in using a variety of equipment and machinery. I have been involved in the maintenance of the machinery which includes servicing and repairing in the workshop. As WO Young also is the owner of a pig unit with 5000 pigs at different stages, I have been involved with the daily management, which includes teething, and vaccinating at the same time maintaining a high standard of hygiene and health and safety. February 2013 – August 2014 Alan Crockett (please see CV for further details) Farming Contractor I was employed full time from the above dates. My role involved working with a wide range of equipment as listed below, for a variety of jobs. 2000 - 2007 Robinson’s Ironcraft Owner As part of a diversification from farming I established a wrought iron business making garden and household furniture and curtain poles, gates etc. As this was a new business it involved identifying new target markets. A large part of this business involved meeting customers and discussing their design ideas, and making bespoke products. This involved fitting the products ie curtain poles/bay window poles, wrought iron gates etc. This required planning skills as the majority of work was carried out in the customer homes I had to ensure that I had all the equipment needed to ensure that the jobs were completed. 1981 – present Dairy herd/farm owner Owner I owned and managed the family dairy herd for over 30 years. This involved farm management of 80 dairy herd and 40 followers. An important part of this job was animal welfare and treatment. Record keeping was a vital part of this role, which included VAT records, veterinary and medication records. In order to ensure that the forage was provided for animal feed each year, I sowed fertilizer, spread muck, cut silage using a variety of equipment as listed. Ploughed fields, power-harrowed, hedge cutting and general duties involved with running my own farm. In December 2012, I sold the dairy herd, but I still farm and carry out the normal duties required as part of this. I harvest the crops and sell the forage. A major part of being a self-employed farmer involves planning workloads in order of importance, with early morning starts and late evenings. This also involves fixing machinery and tractors when needed. This includes all maintenance and repairs on the farm machinery and tractors which has recently included replacing tractor clutches. I have a wide knowledge of tractor spare parts and components which enables me to carry out these repairs when needed. 1981 - 1992 Alan Crockett -Farming Contractor Seasonal Tractor operator For 11 years I worked as a seasonal tractor operator, using a large variety of equipment. This job involved travelling to customers throughout Northern Ireland to complete their job requirements. This included ploughing, rolling, hedge cutting, slurrying, baling and wrapping bales, muck spreading, sowing fertilizer, sowing seed and general duties as part of the contractor work.
