Farming backgroundI graduated from the Royal Agricultural College with a BSc hons in Agriculture with Animal Management and have a large amount of experience in a wide range of agricultural practices. As part of my degree I undertook a 6 month work placement where I worked on a farm which grew both arable including maize and field vegetables such as onions, courgettes, broccoli and fennel. While working on the farm I was responsible for the planting of vegetable, drilling onions, fertiliser spreading, primary and secondary cultivation and hoeing, as well as some irrigation. While working here I also gained my Lantra telehandler certificate and have also completed my PA1 qualification. I have also worked on arable farms which practice both min-till operations and direct drilling. I performed ad-hoc tractor driving duties including corn carting and cultivation. I also have extensive experience in hay making. I worked for two consecutive summers after leaving school and following my first year of university during which time I gained extensive experience of all aspects of hay making, including baling. My current job is managing the day to day running of a small soft fruit trials site in Kent growing new and upcoming varieties of soft fruit. I am responsible for organising labour, site visits and the irrigation of the different crop types as well as other duties including the general maintenance of the site. I have grown up around sheep and horses so am comfortable working with animals and believe I have a good, calm temperament which in my opinion is essential when working with any animals. Within the animal management option for my degree I was asked to write a number of extended essays on topics which included the control of foot and mouth, Bovine Tuberculosis, mastitis in cattle and caseous lymphadenitis of sheep and goats. I have good workshop skills, can weld and have a good mechanical knowledge. I enjoy problem solving and in my spare time I have rebuilt a vintage Massey Ferguson trailer and customised and repaired several Land Rovers I would like to further my career in agriculture and ultimately wish to progress into management. I am therefore looking for a position in which I can utilise the skills I have while gaining the additional experience required for a management position.
HobbiesKeen interest in rebuilding and modifying old landrover
