When dealing with young stock I have had the duties of calf rearing, bedding up calves, feeding calves through a bucket/bottle or solid pellets, also health checking calves for any signs of scour or coccidiosis.  Also, I had to gradually wean the calves of milk to grass and concentrates and eventually de-horning them. When cows were brought inside to calf I had to feed silage bales and bed up cattle, once they had their calf I made sure the calf got plenty of colostrum e.g. stomach tubing. I have also had a bit of experience with sheep weighing lambs, lambing, shearing, feeding, castrating, etc.

One of the dairy farms had a herringbone parlour which I helped with milking and washing down the parlour. I have also milked on a 21 point Dairymaster rotary parlour, with ACR. I helped check and treat cows with mastitis. After milking I had the job of using a yard scraper to clean the yard. Also I had to clean the cubicles and rebed with lime to keep udders clean to prevent mastitis and sawdust. I have done a 2 day cattle foot trimming course, through the 5 step Dutch method and recognising signs of lameness and treating the problem. During my daily duties on the farm I have put up electric fences into daily paddocks and also banging in posts. Learnt about how silage and haylage is made (mowing, raking, baling and wrapping). Good at recognising cow signals, signs of oestrus, calving and illness.
