I am competent driving Quads and Argos over rough terrain, used during my time as a stalkers ghillie. I also have an Hgv licence, mostly used to drive reindeer around the country at Christmas time in a 7.5 tonne horsebox.

Ballcorrach Farm, Glenlivit and Aviemore ( small hill farm with Belted Galloway Cattle, Highland Cattle, Soay sheep, Wildboar and Reindeer) I was feeding all livestock, assisting with catching and dosing sheep and cattle and involved in all aspects of the husbandry of the herd of free ranging reindeer including helping during several calving seasons.

Assisting with all aspects of achieving cull targets in line with the local deer management plan; stalking with clients, driving an Argo, boat handling, carcass extraction, lardering, deer counting and estate maintenance. • Reindeer Herder (Since 2005 part-time/ seasonally) Cairngorm Reindeer Centre, Glenmore. In this position I assist with the management of a herd of approximately 150 re-introduced reindeer which free-range in Cairngorm National Park. This covers all aspects of their husbandry and of the livestock at the affiliated farm in Glenlivet including, feeding, veterinary care, calving, harness training and locating and moving reindeer over remote mountainous terrain. The Reindeer Centre is a visitor attraction and I also help manage the shop and exhibition. I conduct daily guided public visits to the herd, half-day treks across the lower slopes of the Cairngorms and educational visits/ talks for schools, universities and other groups. Administrative duties include answering queries, taking bookings, licence applications, keeping records and diaries, updating social media, developing display material for the exhibition and managing the adoption scheme. Over the winter I organise, co-ordinate and deliver Christmas events all over the UK with teams of sleigh trained reindeer. • Countryside Ranger (March 2012 to February 2014) Highland Council, Ullapool. In this position I was responsible for developing and delivering interpretation, environmental education and a programme of events/ guided walks and presentations for local communities, schools and visitors in Wester Ross. I also guided community groups with conservation, environmental or tourism related projects and worked with the local biodiversity group on projects to improve and increase awareness of biodiversity in the area. Scientific surveying and monitoring were ongoing tasks and I carried out yearly butterfly, damselfly and dragonfly surveys, set-up a sea eagle monitoring project and carried out invertebrate surveys, moth trapping, small mammal trapping and vegetation surveys with school groups. Other duties included site visits and risk assessments of council owned properties, footpath maintenance and signage as well as path surveys. • Bear Guardian (Summer 2008 and 2009) Parks Canada- Banff National Park In this position I was responsible for safely and effectively managing traffic jams associated with roadside wildlife while patrolling over 200 km of road to achieve public safety and conservation objectives. Additionally, my role was to research and develop displays for daily presentations and special events held throughout the park. Enhancing visitor experience and promoting responsible behaviour with an emphasis on bear safety and conservation were the key goals. Monitoring bear activity using telemetry, assisting with aversive conditioning programmes for certain bears were typical operational tasks. Bear DNA collection from rub trees and hair-snag/scent lure trap sites for research into population numbers and genetic make-up of the grizzly bear population. • Great Glen Way Ranger (December 2001 – to January 2004) Highland Council, Fort Augustus. In this position I was responsible for providing information, interpretation, environmental education and delivering a programme of events/ guided walks and formal presentations to local communities, schools and users of the Great Glen Way Long Distance Walking Route. I was also involved in general administration and promotion of the route including updating of the website, press releases and the production of brochures and fliers. Other duties involved patrolling and carrying out risk assessments of the route, visitor surveys, monitoring of contract work, installing and monitoring people counters, maintaining drainage systems, footpath building and repair, fencing, installing signage, removal of windblown trees and brushcutting of the trail. • Seasonal Ranger/ Naturalist (April- October 2001) Aigas Field Centre, Beauly Delivering environmental education programmes to adults and children. This involved co-ordinating hands-on activities for local Primary and Secondary schools, leading guided walks, interpretive driving, guiding multi-day field trips and delivering formal slide-show presentations. I was also responsible for hosting and organising dinners and other events run by the Field Centre and the general maintenance of the estate.
