Farming background

Grandad was a beef farmer, been brought up with sheep and helped out looking after and lambing 100 mixed ewes and lambs consisting of Suffolk's, Kents' and welsh mountains. For my middle year at college from September 2014 to September 2015 I moved away to go and work on a beef and arable farm in Essex. This was a great opportunity for me as it meant moving away from home and living on my own, where I would have my own responsibilities. Working out in Essex on this beef and arable farm made me gain lots of experience and opportunities in the agricultural industry. I was working with a Pedigree Charolais herd which had about 80 breeding females, and a commercial suckler herd of South Devon’s. I did a lot of showing with the pedigree charloais which was a first for me, going to places such as the Royal Norfolk and South of England and many more, winning supreme champion. Doing all these shows was a lot of fun and it taught me a lot about the preparation and the handling of the cattle. I also done two blocks of calving at the farm. I also got to do a lot of tractor work doing jobs such as silage carting, topping, harrowing, grain and onion and potato carting, operating a John Deere 6150 R, this let me gain experience in carting on the road which I felt very comfortable with and operating large trailers.I have also just completed a harvest season on a arable farm in Chichester doing corn cart and occasionally operating the dryer. After harvest I went onto to do the cultivation ready for drilling, I have done disking, spring tining and working the sumo ripping up the ground.

Hobbies

I like to go shooting with my mates and enjoy beating on shoot days in the shooting season. I also enjoy going sea fishing.
