Farming background

I first started work for someone at weekends when I was at school on a multi-stock farm. While I was there I had experience in lambing and calving. I also used to work in his meat trailer going round the county selling the meat at local shows and horse trials. I have previously worked for someone else where I started when I was 16 doing my level 2 NVQ joinery course. I did all aspects of fencing and build sheds and field shelters. I then did a 6 month stint of fitting tyres with Will Ellerby tyres a local firm doing everything from car tyres to tractor rears. I then went self employed working for a contractor where I have been muckspreading + loading muck spreaders with crew + poultry muck and making haylage doing the turning baling and wrapping. I also helped with the running of his cow herd and sheep flock. I have also done some work building playgrounds doing ground works and making benches and play equipment for the council. When i was self employed i worked for farmers where I did all the ploughing and land cultivations ready for drilling. I also did all the yard maintenance fixing doors and hanging gates as well as helping them with their herd of Lincoln Red cattle with mucking out feeding calving and bedding. I have worked for someone in Boston helping with the day to day running of his 300 head herd of beef cattle doing everything from feeding and bedding to weining, tagging and recording of calves. I have done work for an Estate building a new grain dryer and helping do park and grass land maintenance. I did a bit of work for a local turfing company doing everything from turfing lawns to seeding football pitches and land draining. I worked for someone helping with maize silage running the cart. I worked for a builder from Yorkshire helping with the erection of cattle sheds, maintaining his grass land and with the showing of Lincoln Red cattle. . I have just returned from Canada where i have been working for the past 7 months on a family run farm in southwest Manitoba. While i was there I helped with the land cultivations and drilling right through to running the combine in harvest. I also helped with all aspects of making hay from cutting, turning, baling and leading. i also helped with dasy to day managing of the bison checking the cow hreds and feeding and bedding of the finishing stock. While workling with the Bison i learnt alot about winter grazing and how they use the bison and wintere grazing to improve the soil quality of the arable land. I also did a large amount of high tensile electic fencing, from fixing exsiting fencing, to putting up 8 miles of new fence around arable land for the winter grazing.
