Farming background

I am from a farming family where we had 1000 mules and 400 angus x suckler cows on salisbury plain, and started working with livestock from early age.  I have 25 yrs experience in all aspects of a working livestock & arable farm.  I have been working self employed for many years shepherding large numbers of sheep & carrying out stockman duties on large suckler herds for farmers & livestock suppliers based across the South West.  Was head shepherd for 9 years for 1400 blackface, bealuhs where I did all the day to day shepherding, during this time I was involved with large numbers of tack sheep and all aspects of contract work with sheep.  I have also worked for a local contractor, driving tractors, dealing with silage, maize, foraging & muck spreading.  I am currently head shepherd on the Isle of Wight, shepherding 2000 masham & cheviot ewes, 600 ewe lambs & all fat & store lambs born from the main flock.  On this flock I am indoor & outdoor lambing & I totally run this enterprise spread across the Island. This involves alot of rappa fencing, which I am very good at.  I am a hardworking, self motivated individual.  I have a good eye for detail & am committed to all that I undertake, seeing each task through to the end.  I am punctual & practical with good problem solving skills & able to work well under pressure & to deadlines. I am able to work as part of a team or on my own initiative.  I also have 2 working sheepdogs.  I am very keen and would love to work as shepherd for rest of my life.

Hobbies

Hunting, shooting and walking my dogs.
