I have a BTEC national diploma in animal management. I have also recently completed an Agriculture apprenticeship Level 2 city and guilds in work based Agriculture Level 2 city and guilds in livestock production

During my apprenticeship I gained various experiences using farm equipment. I have completed 2 seasons of Buckraking, using a JCB 463 loading shovel. I did a season carting bales last year with a Massey Ferguson loader tractor and a 45ft dolly trailer, I have also completed roughly 100 acres of hedge cutting using a 1.5m McConnel hedgecutter on a Fendt. I also have experience in basic livestock related jobs such as feeding using a feeder wagon, this includes loading the wagon, Scraping out cattle sheds, bedding down using a straw chopper and cleaning out cattlesheds using a JCB loadall and muck grab.

During my time at college I completed around 100 hours worth of lambing, and all associated tasks that go with it. I also administered medication as and when it was needed. Whilst completing my Agriculture apprenticeship I gained lots of experience working with livestock, my main duties were calf rearing young cattle, I have experience in feeding, bedding down, mucking out, administering some medicines, Dehorning, milk feeding. During my apprenticeship I also worked part time on a dairy, here I gained experience in rounding the cows up for milking, putting on clusters, feeding, scraping out and other basic dairy duties such as calf rearing, ear tagging ect. I have limited calving experience having only every assisted in three births, with only one of those being unsupervised.

I am very keen and enthusiastic about farming, now my apprenticeship is completed I am hoping to find a permanent position where I can increase my knowledge and progress through the ranks to become a valuable member of the team. I am passionate about working with livestock and animal welfare is very important thing to me.

Farming background

I have no farming background in my family. I went to college to study animal management and during my time at college I did work experience on the campus farm working with both sheep and Lincolnshire red cows. It was during my work experience that I realised I wanted to spend my life working with livestock. I spent a little time working on a sheep farm in Scotland helping to train sheepdogs. In 2016 I started my agriculture apprenticeship, where I gained lots of valuable experiences, from milking cows to carting bales.

Hobbies

I am a keen rock climber and aim to climb once or twice a week, I enjoy climbing both in and outdoors. I enjoy walking and cycling and just generally being outdoors. I also enjoy training dogs and hope to one day be able to breed and train award winning sheep and cattle dogs.
