I have a wide and varied level of experience with both sheep, dairy and beef. I currently have the position of Assistant Farm Manager at a Farm in Wilthire looking after 200 sheep and 300 suckler cows. Sheep work has included 12 lambing seasons (please see attached c.v for exact work carried out), the last few as lambing supervisor, and plenty of other work such as dagging, dosing, fly spraying, dipping and vaccinating. I also have dairy experience as I worked for 3 months on a dairy unit in New Zealand where jobs included milking 1,000 Friesian herd through a 56 bale. In relation to beef, my lambing seasons have coincided with the calving of a 60 head herd of Angus cattle which I have often helped out with. More recently I have undertaken full calving seasons with a herd of 300 suckler cows. Other cattle work has included working with a 200 head beef herd on another farm in Northumberland. Jobs included administering spot on, injections against Leptospirosis, BVD vaccination and dehorning calves. I have also worked for 2 months on a 600 head Angus unit in New Zealand which also had a herd of 600 Red Deer that we had to gather in a couple of times for velvet collection and culling.

Farming background

I have always been passionate about farming. Not being fortunate enough to come from a farming family myself, I have had to seek out opportunities where and when they have arisen. Initially when I was young I spent 2 years volunteering part time on a local sheep/dairy farm learning about lambing, milking, etc. The experience got me hooked on working with livestock. Since then I have gone on to hold down many different and varied posts which have all enabled me to hone my industry skills. I believe that my work experience has already been outlined in the above section and in my c.v. which is attached to this form. However should you require more information about my abilities/experience please just ask.

Hobbies

Photography is one pass time of mine as is a bit of shooting and fishing when possible. I play rugby and basketball. I have previously traveled for 7 months in Australia and New Zealand gaining some different agricultural experience too that in the UK. I also enjoy mountain climbing and count the 3 peaks challenge as one of my more challenging experiences.
